RELATED: It Takes Two: How To Play Co-Op On Steam

Recently, It Takes Two came out on the Nintendo Switch, which makes it the first Hazelight game to release on that platform. Because it is new to the system, it is fair to be curious about how co-op works on the Switch. This includes playing with a player in-person or over online connection.

Setting Up Co-Op

There are three methods that players can use to play It Takes Two with another player. If two people are in the same room, they can play the game on the same device through Couch Co-Op. After purchasing and booting up the game, simply connect two controllers, one for each player. From here, individuals can pick their character and begin.

If the two players are on the same Wi-Fi network and each have a Switch, each player can download the game on their devices and connect through Local Wireless Play. If the two players are on different Wi-Fi networks, they must each get the game on their device and then connect through Online Co-Op.

In both scenarios involving two Nintendo Switch devices, all a person has to do is send an invitation for a player to join them in a game. Both players will also need to create or sign in to their EA account. Unfortunately, this version of It Takes Two does not have cross-platform play, meaning those on different devices can’t play with someone on the Nintendo Switch.

How Friend Pass Works

The best part about It Takes Two is that only one player needs to purchase the game to get the full experience. That is thanks to the game’s Friend Pass. Those interested in either local wireless or online co-op can choose this option for a more cost-effective experience where both people still get to play.

If a player is invited to play It Takes Two, and they do not have the game, they will be taken to the Nintendo eShop where they will be able to download the Friend Pass for free. Even without an invitation, the Friend Pass can be downloaded at any time. Once downloaded, the individual can hop into a game with their friend. Both players will still need EA accounts.

There may be a scenario where both players may want to try It Takes Two for free without spending anything initially. Luckily, if both players download the Friend Pass, the two can connect via Local Wireless Play or Online Co-Op and experience the entirety of the first chapter completely for free. If they like the game, only one person needs to buy the full thing.

It Takes Two is available now on Nintendo Switch, as well as PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
